From Dashboard, please click the Start Optimize button.

Step 1: Choose images to compress

  • All product images

  • All collection images (include featured image of collections)

  • Select product images (if you want to run an optimization test for just 1 image, this is a suitable option)

  • Select collection images

  • Asset images (the images that make up your website theme)

  • Blog post images (all featured images of blogs)

Then click Next.

If you want to compress homepage images, website logo, images in product descriptions or images in blog content..., you can make use of the CUSTOM UPLOAD feature. You can upload and compress any images as wish.

Step 2: Select settings

2.1. Select the suitable compress type

  • Lossless: Reduce image size by 15%, preserve image quality by 100%. The image quality after compression is the same as the original image.

  • Lossy: Reduce more image size by up to 40-70%. You can define your own settings to set the image quality after compression. Changes aren’t noticeable to human eyes.

Please drag the bar to define the JPEG quality and PNG quality. We recommend the minimum percentage at 50%. If the quality setting is below 50%, the images may be blurry.

2.2. Convert PNG to JPG

Converting an image from PNG format to JPG format could reduce the file size up to 80% of the original size. A smaller image means better loading speed. It leads to better SEO and user experience.

Please note that this feature is not applied to asset images.

2.3. Set image ALT text

Select one of the two pre-made Alt text templates:

  • [product_title] - [product_type] - [product_vendor] - [shop_name]

  • [product_title] - [shop_name]

Or you can customize your own Alt text template for all products with the following variables, including

  • [product_title]

  • [product_type]

  • [product_vendor]

  • [shop_name]

  • [variant_title]

  • [option1], [option2], [option3]

If you have old images with alt text already and don’t want to change that. Please tick this checkbox: Do not overwrite the existing alt text.

Please note that the ALT text is not applied for asset images.

2.4. Add watermark

Smart Image Optimizer app supports text-based watermark and allows you to customize each and every element of the watermark with these options:

  • Watermark text: Set your company name here as the source of the image. For example, mywebsite.com

  • Angle: Decide the angle of the watermark. For example, if you enter 30, the watermark will be tilted at an angle of 30 degrees.

  • Font: Select from our 3 options. (Arial, Roboto, Times)

  • Font size: Decide the size of the watermark.

  • Color: Use the color picker tool to determine the text color of the watermark (enter HEX code or RGB value)

  • Position: Select one or several positions at once to place the watermark (Top Left, Top, Top Right, Center Left, Center, Center Right, Bottom Left, Bottom, Bottom Right)

Please note that this feature is not applied to asset images.

Then click Next.

Step 3: Re-check settings and optimize images

Re-check all your settings and click Optimize Now.

Please note that the app runs on the background. Therefore, you can log out of the app or your store. The app still run the optimization for your images.
