This feature is designed to help you in the following situations:

  • Compress images outside of Shopify. For example, you need to optimize the file size of images to use in your blog content.

  • Compress product images before uploading them to Shopify. This is to prepare before launching your Shopify store.

  • Compress images that don’t belong to our pre-made selection. Smart Image Optimizer is able to automatically compress Product, Collection, Asset, and Blog Post Featured images. Unfortunately, it’s not possible to compress any other images you may have stored in Shopify within the “Files” section in “Settings”. This includes images within your blog content and homepage images. Like all Shopify apps, our app is not allowed to access this area, hence the reason such images can’t be optimized automatically. Thus, we made CUSTOM UPLOAD feature to allow you to compress them manually.

Step 1: Upload an image from your desktop

Click the Add image button to upload an image from your computer. Or you can drop your image there to upload it.

Step 2: Select settings

This process is similar to Step 2 in How to optimize image

This contains 3 options: Compress, Convert PNG to JPG and Watermark.

After finishing with those settings, scroll up and click Refresh to see a preview of your image after being optimized.

Then click the Download button. Then you can save the optimized image to your computer.
